so... um... just because i'm slow...

1) have a poke who has magnet pull or similar (optional)

2) use radar

3) find furthest patch of grass

4) if no shiny, walk 50 steps and repeat.

there some tips i found some places...
1)In this example down there,see the C on the middle as you.
And the numbers the steps away from you...

433333334
432111234
4321C1234
432111234
432222234
433333334
444444444

If C is you,4 steps is the biggest chance of raising your chain,and 1 step has the lesser chance.Ok nothing new, but...

444444444
4B3333334

A321C1234
432111234
432222234
433333334
444444444

From A to C we have 4 steps...(counting the A),
From B to C we have 5 steps,what logically would be "farthest"...
but that thought its wrong...
Only the biggest distance on one direction is used to
calculate the farthest one.
Ex:
4 steps left = 4 Steps
3 steps left + 2 steps up=3 Steps

I think that's correct ...
I got a 72 miltank chain with that ...
but no shinies though....

Why do you need all the max repels? You never explained that part.

I had waited several weeks for the Beldum swarm. Everyday when I went to check with the little girl in Sandgem, she'd tell me for like the 5th time that Smoochum was in Lake Acuity and that Zigzagoon was in Route 203.

So today, it finally arrived - the Beldum swarm. BUT THE BELDUM SWARM JUST HAD TO APPEAR THE DAY BEFORE MY EXAMS!!! >_<

I was going to chain hunt for a shiny Beldum, but I also have to study for those "urgh" exams. I'm a rather slow chainer, so it could take me up to an hour or so to reach a chain of 40.

Has anyone here successfully chained a shiny Beldum in Route 228? If so, around what number did you get up to before it appeared? Are swarmed Pokemon slightly easier to chain?

I'm worried that it could take another several weeks before another Beldum swarm appears for me. I apologise to Smoochum fans, but I am itching to strangle the little girl if she tells me that Jynx's pre-evo is the Swarm of the Day Pokemon again.

Beldums are ultimately hard to catch... I reduced loads to 1 with False Swipe and used up millions of Ultra Balls and Dusk Balls to try and catch them, but they kept escaping and fainting after using Struggle, and sometimes I got critical hits with Sceptile's Leaf Blade... But finally I got a chain of 128 Beldums (VERY HARD ALL BELDUM/METAGROSS FANS) and at the end I got a shiny one and I was thinking

"HOLY CRUD PLEASE GET CAUGHT" so i finally used a Quick Ball after using Leaf Blade once and

I threw Quick Ball
Beldum went inside Quick Ball
I was sweating
Shake 1!!!
I was biting my nails
Shake 2!!!!!!
I was readying my fist to crush my DS when it escaped
Shake 3!!!!!!!!!
Moving fist closer
Click! Beldum was caught!

I SHOUTED MY VICTORY PHRASE ("Yay") and bla bla bla he's now resting in my PC as a lvl 81 Metagross....

How gripping!!

Oh sorry i forgot to say...

You will need many max repels because ...
my way of finding shinies...depend on a thing know as reseting...
When you do a large chain you stop entering in the bushes and
start walking the 50 steps needed for recharging your radar...
if you don't see a shiny bush walk the 50 steps again...
It's safer and faster than fighting for raise your chain...
I good number for start reseting would be between 42 and 56 ...

So do a 42 or 56 chain(battling), then try the reseting method. Is that right? Or, do you just use the radar & if you don't see the "shiny bush" reset?

So what is better in terms of finding a shiny the reset method or chaining?

You guys are so lucky. I'm honestly a patient person, but I find chaining very tedious. The radar keeps giving me dodgy squares, and I'd have to reset once or twice or even three times before it gives me a decent square to go to. I still haven't been able to find any shinies through the radar, and my chain of 37 Bidoof was broken by a stupid Starly. :(

Okay, fortunately for me, the Beldum swarm is back today. I'm determined to chain hunt for a shiny Beldum, but the sandstorm is such a pain :(. Are there any tips for making long chains of Beldum easier?

Beldum? Wow, that's going to be tough. Like someone else mentioned earlier in the thread, you'll want to have a pokemon with the Magnet Pull ability just in case. Personally, I've never really tried for Beldum because I don't chain so well in environments with harsh weather XD. Good luck though!

I've actually had terrible luck with chaining the past few days ^^; Before this bad luck streak, though, I've managed to catch 12 shinies (so those of you who posted earlier in the thread saying that there is no such thing as shiny hunting...well, there is :p). Technically, nine of them were chained for. The other three were lucky random encounters, but you still get the idea.

Random encounters:

{mr. mime}
{seel}
{staravia}

Chaining results:

{absol}
{farfetch'd}
{lickitung}
{skitty}
{smoochum}
{porygon}
{eevee}
{chatot}
{dusclops}

I've evolved most of them now...still need to decide what I want that Eevee to turn into though. Anyway, I'm off to work on this Magnemite chain :3

Update: Caught not one, but three shiny Magnemites from a chain of 80! Magnemites were what the bad luck streak started with, and now they are what ended it... fitting :p

Anyway! My bad luck is over for now. Whoo!

I watch ed same video, thanks bushin, & read a post from the same person that is step for step the same as the video. It made the whole concept really easy to understand.

Yeah, I've seen that video too.

The Beldum swarm has been appearing a lot more for me during the last few days prior to my exams... :?

But guess who's back for me today - yep, Smoochum. I still haven't had the Nosepass, Lickitung, Doduo, Cubone, Farfetch'd, Makuhita or Corsola swarms, yet I've had the Smoochum swarm for nearly seven times now... o_O

^ You could always save before you talk to Dawn's sister, and keep reseting till she says who you want.

...are you sure that's how it works? I could've sworn that it's not possible to change one's swarm.

Speaking of swarms, I managed to snag two shiny {electrike} last night!

I just tried testing out what KOL40 recommended just to make sure...
It is definitely not possible to change your swarm by resetting.

In other news, I caught a shiny {castform} tonight! :3
