Post subject:  EV training question

I have a mismagius, i was intending for it to be a Special sweeper. So I went to the Old Cheatou.
My mismagius has a Bold nature with PKrus and a macho brace and is lv 68
and its SP. Attack is 169 and is now 172 at lv 69

I trained it on ghastly and haunter in the cheatou, they give SP. Attack EV's

I killed 35 ghastly and leveled up, but guess what? NO EV's

Why'd it do this? and where should i train now?

Do i have to breed my mismagius?! WAAAAH im so confused!

Lettssee Evs will show at lvl 100 just maybe not RIGHT AWAY and its best to EV train when its lvl 5-20

.....Yeah....or the EVs on his Mismagius is already maxed out.

You'll probably wanna get a new Mismagius.

I find that the best place to EV train for Sp. Attack is the water right in front of turnback cave where you get giratina. There is nothing but golducks in the water and each gives 2 sp att EVs. give your lower level pokemon an exp. share and pokerus (if you can) and you are set.

Y'know the max evs it can get is 510.

So if you've knocked out a couple hundred pokemon by level 30 your evs maxed out.

Also evs don't reveal themself all at once, they have a limit based on your level.

If a level 99 pokemon gets al it's evs at that level then levels up it'll gain over 120 additional points.

If you get all the points early they'll appear much more gradually.

This is the wrong place, I know, but I'm also having the same problem with my Lucario.

I'm EV training for speed, so it can get a strong attack off before somebody KO's it with Earthquake(you'd be surprised how many Pokemon can learn Earthquake :? )

So, somebody told me you can get Speed EV's from Starly, so I've probably KO'd almost two hundred of those suckers, but everytime Lucario gains a level, nothing shows.

So either my source is wrong, or I'm just being paranoid.

Elemental, your EVs are probably maxed out. You can get up to 510 Evs. Every 4 of the same kind give you a stat increase in said stat. If you already have a Lucario chances are you've used it in battling before and therefore have gained EVs.

Actually, I just evolved it today from a level 10 Riolu, but thanks. I guess I should raise it past thirty :D Thanks. Hey! It just gained six speed stats! I guess it's working...

See, EVs are usually only visible when the Pokemon get to level 100. Yes, they tend to show up as the Pokemon levels up, but a majority of those hidden points come out when they level from 99 to 100, like Faceless said. That's why many people who seriously EV train have access to a large amount of Rare Candies, so when they finish EV training, they can Candy their way to 100 so they can reap the real benefits of their EVs.

I have a level 70 dusknoir, i was training it from level 52 to 70 on tentacreuls and gravelers for the Def EV's

heres what i saw each time on the level ups

Attack+3
Defense+10
Sp Attack+2
Sp Def+11
Speed+1

:3 so, what your saying is that EV's WILL show up sometimes when leveling, but the REAL EV's appear at the level up at lv 99?

EVs are hidden values that you won't see or hear about ingame. Your stats are NOT your EVs. Your EVs influence your stats.

Any pokemon that gives experience points gives you EVs (so battle tower pokemon don't give EVs).

A pokemon can only have a total of 510 EVs. And the maximum amount of EVs on one stat is 255, so you can only max out two stats, because 255+255=510.

Every 4 EVs is equal to 1 stat point in its respective stat. 4 attack EVs gives one attack stat point, etc.
So you can add up to 63 stat points to a stat, by giving 255 EVs to that stat. If you're smart, you'll notice 255 doesn't divide equally into 4, so 252 is the real maximum.

Stat points earned through EVs won't show all at once. They're gained on top of your normal stat gains over time, up to level 100.
Say you have a pokémon with 252 EVs in attack.
By level 50, it will have around 31-32 extra stat points than it normally would, given its species and IVs. By level 100, it will have the 63 extra stat points.

Anyway, the fatal flaw in what you're doing is that you're training high leveled pokemon, who have probably fought enough battles to have maxed their EVs. So they can't be EV trained further.
You can, however, delete EVs using berries. Anything between and including Pomeg and Tamato berries, I think. It says what stat they lower in their descriptions ingame anyway. They each delete 10 EVs.

EVs aren't shared in battle, either. So say two pokemon participated in battle against a golduck, when they both receive exp, they will EACH receive 2 EVs in special attack.

Anyway, hope that cleared up the rampant misconceptions about EVs on the internets.

Well my mismagius has been ONLY training on golducks and gastly,
soooooooo at level 80 should i trian on Speed? :D

Oh and my Dusknoir is level 70, and i RUN from almost every wild pokemon, soooo the levels are from higher leveled pokemon, so EXP>EV in this case, sooooo i still have a bit of room left for Defense WEWT!!

Author:  Bobsymalone [ Wed Jun 13, 2007 4:09 pm ]

Well, if you've only trained on gastlies and golducks, you're probably maxed on special attack.

And yeah, the higher level something is, the more exp it gives, while EVs it gives remains the same. So if you've only trained on high levels, maybe you still haven't maxed out.
If you want me advice, I'd say breed a new one, or feed Dusknoir 26 of each EV-lowering berry and EV train him from there.
That does mean you'd be feeding him 156 berries in total, which could be tedious =P

It'll show up in the long run.... when you hit 100

I usually level my guys with rare candy up to lvl. 98 then I Ev train one stat, then level it up to 99, then Ev train the other major stat, and it's one stat can go up +45 in one level if EV trained right. But don't worry it'll be good by 100....
