How come blondes are generally made stupid in the English speaking world nowadays?
I thought they used to be a good thing in ancient stories...
(People tell me that people from Spain love blondes! People in Asia too)

I'd say the fault belongs to the thousands of blonde actresses that play dumb. I can think of quite a few 20th century series and movies which portrayed the blond woman as less intelligent, and the story went on. This is my opinion though, not a fact. I'm sure there is some deeper reason as to why those actresses started playing dumb in the first place though...
Oh, and Portugal is very fond of blonde women too, they're rare in here, actually, the only blonde women you'll find are brunettes that died their hair. They're butt-ugly, too..

ya! I have a friend from Portugal, she said that if they see a blonde girl, the blonde girl would be very busy because everyone wants a photo with her
People in Asia like blondes too, mostly. They like blonde hair and blue eyes, because it is nearly genetically impossible for Asians to get these colours, unless the rare recessive genes are both passed on, or an albino occurs.

Blondes are becoming rarer and rarer apparently from some tests, brown haired men have children with blonde women and its more likely a brown haired child is born, this is happening alot.
I dont see why people joke about blondes so much. Meh.

I don't know why people make fun of blondes, but there are some at my school that are really in desperate need of some common sense...

I don't know if this is simply because they wish to live up to the steryotype that they have been labeled with, or because there is actually a shred of truth in this common belief, but pretty much all of the blonde haired females that I interact with on a daily basis tend to lack the common sense that most others I know possess. Another possibility is that I simply look harder for this stupidity in blondes, but I find this unlikely, since I'm a very judgemental person and don't wish for my criticism to be limited by something as foolish as hair color.

I believe it probably originated here from the fact that blonde is a rare hair colour, due to its genetic recessiveness, and thus it's seen as a cool/attractive trait. It's more complicated than I know/can explain, but essentially your hair colour is determined by a pair of gene-marker-things, one from your dad and one from your mom, that are either dominant (captal H) or recessive (lowercase h.) HH will give you dark hair, Hh or hH will give you medium hair, and only hh will give you really pale hair. Don't ask about red. My biology teacher never explained red.
Anyways, ever heard the phrase "blondes have all the fun"? Essentially, the stereotypical "party girl" was seen as an attractive young woman with the rare, and much appreciated, blonde hair. Unfortunately, "party girls" weren't really much in the brains department, hence the stereotype that attractive blondes are only interested in their looks. And somewhere down the line, someone took advantage of this unspoken stereotype, used it in a stupid people joke, and voila- dumb blonde jokes were born.
So, yea, I think blondes being seen as pretty/good was what caused their downfall.

Hair colour might not be co-dominant. When an allele (different forms of a gene) is dominant, its trait is expressed as long as it is present. So HH will give dark hair, Hh still gives dark hair, and only hh produces pale hair. Meh, whatever, that's not the concern here, nor am I some expert on genetics =x
Anyway, some research has shown that fair hair, being characteristic of young children (o rly?) evokes parent-like feelings of affection and protection in others. This association with children might be the cause of this stereotype of blond women as being unintelligent.

Exactly. Oh, and Gryphflame, if you wish, http://www.derm.med.ed.ac.uk/06_teachin ... netics.pdf
Perhaps it's our nature. We refuse to accept anything as perfect, and blondes being (by our patterns) the most beautiful girls, people felt the need to compensate by perceiving them as not-so-bright.
It's, perhaps, our own little way to laugh at perfection.

So you suggest that the allele of blonde hair might asociate with another recessive gene that makes you more stupid compared with others?
Anyway, I think most blondes are beautiful >.<"
And I had met a Blonde that has very high IQ! o_O|||

No, you might have misunderstood what the whole genetics thing was about. What Gryphflame meant was that because blond hair is a recessive trait, it is a rare one, and is therefore perceived to be a cool trait. And this leads on to people associating blonds with the stereotypical attractive party girl, typically without brains. Read Gryphflame's post more carefully

Gentics obviously played a big part in labeling blondes, and the theory of being called "party girl" makes sense. But yet another steryotype is labeling all blondes as the "pretty" females. Having fair hair in no way affects whether or not you are attractive. However, it may be a mental thing, if girls think "I'm blonde, I have to be pretty!!" and base their whole lives on trying to improve how people view them.
I think that having blonde hair does affect a person mentally, but only because todays society has made it that way.

Blondes in general are not unintelligent and I don't see why people should make fun of them just because of some of those actresses mentioned. I know a few blonde girls who are interested in Science - not that I know many girls.
The term "Mentally Blonde" is used in my school to refer to a blonde girl who's dyed her hair another colour but is uninteligent. Not fair, but still a bit funny.

Well, I'm a blonde and I'm certainly not dumb. A bit impulsive, assuredly, but not dumb.
Blondes are still rare, btw. Most blondes you see these days are bottle blondes who don't respect the beauty of their natural hair color and think being blonde will make them happy. Personally, I've never been attracted to many blondes. I prefer a deep auburn.
The reason for the stereotype has already been covered. Though I think it may have stemmed primarily from naturally blonde starlets Marilyn Monroe and Madonna, both of whom were considered "blonde bombshells" in the primes of ther lives and were also considered party girls and none too sharp upstairs. I also believe the dumb blonde stereotype of today grew from the blonde bombshell stereotype of the early 20th century. Either way, it's just a stereotype: there's a certain fixed rate of stupid people out there and the more people who dye their hair blonde, the more it's going to appear that that fixed rate of stupid people is primarily blonde.
Either way, don't believe stereotypes.

But what if they're true? Most of the blondes in my school (Not all, but some) are really in need of a common sense/anti-stupidity infusion. And I think that some of the non-blondes have absorbed some of their awkwardness...ai, my school's full of common senseless people!!
(Coming from someone who smashed her finger in a door. Whoo for smartness)

As I said, there's a certain amount of already-idiotic people out there and many of those people, being the idiots they are, feel it would be somehow beneficial to dye their hair blonde, making it look like the majority of stupid people are blonde. Take a second glance and tell me: how many of those bakas are natural blondes and how many are fake blondes? Most of them are probably fake.
Also, consider your age range. I take it you're probably in high school? Common sense isn't exactly a priority for most high-school students and it's not even in the vocabulary for most middle-schoolers.
Or maybe I'm just being overly cynical again.

Eh, most are natural, some dye their hair either to or away from blonde.
And...next year I'll be in high school. Eighth grader. Age range: 12-15. Some skipped a year, others retaking one. (It's no wonder people had to retake a year or two: You can't hear a dang thing due to the chit-chat of the other people in the room...)
Eh, I remember one of my friends, whos hair is naturally brown, bleached his hair and didn't act any worse than he was before...

I think it may deal more with your age group. Wait until college and you'll realize that dumb people run the gamut of hair colors.

How many blondes do you actually know, Gardevoir1313? It is unlikely that you know enough blondes that aren't too intelligent to form a sample size that is large enough to accurately represent the entire blond population
There are plenty of people with other hair colours that have no common sense, trust me

*counts*
Approximately 61 out of the 224 or so people in my grade are blonde. About...20 or so actually have decent common sense.
And I'm not saying it's just the blondes that are...odd...in my school. Plenty of other hair colors are as well ^_^ Example: Deshon. He has brown hair, but 'has a brain the size of an atom' (He said that himself), and he keep saying 'I'M GOING STUPID!!!'
Eileen says I'm pretty odd myself...but compared to the real idiots in my grade, I'm normal.

you wouldn't be saying that if you were blond by the way, and whats more I am a blond and I'm the best at maths in my class.
and I have come to conclusion that a lot of blonds are very intelligent, it's mostly people who have this wierd shade of brown (dnt know wat its called) that are crazy.
