So today is Chinese New Year. How much did everyone get? Also: if you're not asian, what asian foods do you like? I'm into mi goreng and springrolls. And I find pho highly overrated. I think its the year of the Tiger but I can't exactly remember.

Here are some superstitions:

- You can't take out the rubbish because its bad luck
- Red is a lucky colour
- Fireworks are meant to ward off the angry spirits

PS: I live in a town where the MP sends out "Happy Chinese New Year" letters to everyone in town (everyone...). Does this happen elsewhere?

I'm not Asian (although if I was i'd be Japanese),
But my favorate Asian food would have to be anything involving Duck or just sushi

1. Damn I have bad luck.
2. Do I get good luck because I was playing with 2 lightsabers (RED)
3. Are cats and dog's evil spirits. because fireworks ward them off

I'm sure Chinese New Year is a bigger deal in cities with larger Chinese populations, such as San Francisco and New York City, but in Cleveland, you almost never hear about it.

I like curry.

I only knew about it because I know someone of Chinese descent. They don't live in the states though. I don't think there are many people of Chinese descent here.

My wife and I aren't Chinese, but we had a new year's party last night with a few friends. Basically we just hung out and ate gyoza, yakisoba, meat and azuki steam buns, matcha ice cream and sake :D

The food was really good :p

Is there no Asian in this forum? My dad is Italian and Irish? (i'm not sure, I just know he is white) and my mom is Viet. We would go to temples to celebrate after we get the red envelopes. I only got $200 this year because most of my relatives are at Vietnam celebrating it there. When I went to the temple, you would pray about what you want I guess. Then they give you a red envelope with a charm and a tangerine. Then you can eat vegetarian food like fried tofu, vegetables, rice bun, and a whole bunch of stuff. They taste really good surprisingly.

Perhaps not in the central states, but in the port cities (San Francisco, New York) and the tri-state area, there are hundreds upon hundreds of Chinese-born. I myself am one.

All my relatives are in China.

I was supposed to get 1000Y from my grandfather, about 160USD. I haven't gotten it yet though. ~.~
