I guess you need to look into the options. Maybe this is the problem?

I'm running a much older version, so I'm not sure if that's the problem or not. I highly suggest downloading an older version of mIRC (like before mIRC 7), not sure if it's compatible with Windows 7 or not, I don't see why it wouldn't be, though, since I run ancient versions of mIRC on my laptop all the time.

There's an option in mIRC that minimizes it to the System Tray. Try just expanding your tray list (the little up arrow left of the clock on the task bar).

I was trying out the Mibbit browser client and when this was filled in:

You were connecting via SSL to port 6667. Since port 6667 is the most common port used for standard incoming connections, I don't see why any server would have SSL set up on that port instead. If you really must use an SSL connection, you can try using +6697, though I can't guarantee that the network uses that. Otherwise, it'd be easier to just connect via standard 6667.
