Post subject:  Today, i encountered a real life troll.

I'm Back!!!!! I will try to set up me and ROT's next match while im here. Here is what happened to me after i took the combat challenge (after an intro):

Did you guys know they existed? I didn't!!! Till today at GC, and let me tell you, if i wasn't 20 and a firefighter one 12 year old kid would have several less teeth. Here's what happened:

I was playing a jackson sitting alone by myself. Volume was low, i could hear, and maybe for about 20 ft you could hear softly.

This kid walks up to the wall, grabs a guitar and plugs in. He then cranks his volume so the store could hear.

I get kinda annoyed, but im like w/e, i was probably an asshole when i was 12 too. I slightly roll my volume knob so i can actually HEAR myself. Which prompts him to crank his volume EVEN louder. So i get up, put the guitar and cord away, and go to the Pianos.

I sit at the best piano and I play Beethoven's Sonata Patetique. About 4 mins in the kid walks over, sits at the piano adjacent to me and starts staring me down. He watches me, like an owl intent on a field mouse for like 2 mins. Then he opes his mouth and this comes out:

"I don't like it. I mean, i just don't think Bach is good...everyone says he's great, but i think he's just barely decent...ughhh...I mean, your playing is O-K (the way he said Okay REALLY made me want to BACKHAND the **** out of him)."

To which i reply by looking at him without missing a note and conversateing with him (all without missing a note - i don't have to look at the keyboard as i play, but i usually do anyway). Anyway, run-on sentences are awesome, but i said:

"Well, while i think Bach is overratted as well, he is still an exceptional composer...(I pause speach for around 5 seconds but never stop playing)...but this is Beethoven."

He says "Oh yeah, well i can never tell all those old guys apart, they all suck anyway."

So i ask "Do you compose?"

"No, but i am really good at guitar"

"And what do you play?"

He rattles off some standard guitar players.

I reply: "Most of those guys would not have written any of their music if not for those 'old guys' as you called."

"Yeah, but the difference is they have no compassion, no emotion, no TECHNIQUE."

I ring out a the next note, sit up completely straight (i weigh 200lbs of almost solid muscle) remove my hands from the keys (while keeping the sustain depressed) and look him dead in the eye:

"What do you know about Beethoven?"

"uhh..." (his jaw kinda drops, his bottom lip sticks out and he looks kinda like Goofy)

"Well, Beethoven was deff. Meaning he couldn't hear. How could someone compose SO many beautiful pieces WITHOUT hearing and use NO emotion?"

I resume playing, his response:

"uhh...well...look, he just sucks OK! I don't make the rules."

I know i am visibly angry now, i am missing notes and timeing. I'm sure my face is red and eyebrows are down. I am a classically trained violinist of 7 years, so ignorant people insulting classical kinda upsets me. Intimidation didn't work, so i try ignoreing him. I finish the piece, get up, and go back to the guitars. He says:

"Well aren't you gonna listen to me play?"

"No, im gonna go play guitar now."

As I walk off i hear him start "Fur Elise" (BEETHOVEN!!!). I pick up the same jackson i had and plug in, I begin to play Master of Puppets. Of course he had to have the keyboard cranked just like the guitar, so i heard the whole thing anyway. He didn't even play the whole song. He just played a beginner arrangement of the song. He walks to me and asks:

"Did you hear?"

"Well, seeing as how you had the volume to max, i believe the parking lot probably heard."

"Yeah, i like for people to know how awesome i am!"

"Oh, Okay..." I say that without a hint of sarcasm. I don't want to hurt the kid...i mean for all i know he is beaten daily by his parents and music is his only escape.

He goes and gets a guitar and starts to elbow me in the side - as i am PLAYING. Not hard, like he's trying to get my attention, ya know. I turn around and *almost* succeed at not yelling at him:

"WHat?!!?!?!?!!"

To which he replys by swinging his guitar from the neck like a pendulum and saying in a falsetto voice:

"U WANNA JAM?!!!?"

I SWEAR i was gonna punch this kid in the chest and simultainiously break all his ribs. So i had to leave. I HAD to. Did i do the right thing? I mean, on one hand he could've been just trying to piss me off (trolling). But then again, like i mentioned he could just be a lonely kid with music as his only outlet. What do you guys think? Similar occurances?

Sounds like a standard trip to a GC to me.

That really doesn't sound that bad. I think though, maybe telling him to piss off might have been a better option. If you're a twenty year old firefighter and he's a twelve year old, he'll probably get the message. Lots of kids don't like classical music though.
lol at playing Fur Elise afterwards.

Wow, you must have a VERY good temper not to have punched him, or even hit him back with the guitar, lol.

It actually sounds like the kid admires you.

Great observation! That original post was filled with blah. :(

Yeah, once again, sounds like a standard trip to Guitar Center. If you're playing too low, someone else turns up. If you play to high, some manager comes around to tell you to turn down. Never really appreciated the way these types of music stores were built. Some of those amps, especially tube, you must turn up in order to hear how the tubes break up. I mean... I'm not going to pay $1500 for what I cannot even hear. Then you have your losers who go in there to show the whole store what they can do and not purchase anything. It's like, "get a band." You had THE Guitar Center experience!

For future reference, problems such as those can be solved by methods such as these:

Something similar happened at EB games. My friend and I were getting some game that I don't remember and we started talking about Bruce Lee. Well some kid comes up and said Chuck Norris was 10 times better. I asked the kid if he even knew who Bruce Lee was. He said no and thought just because name sounded asian, he thought Bruce Lee was a wannabe kung -fu guy. Then I looked at the kid and said. "Well Bruce Lee is the guy that trained Chuck Norris." The kid was so shocked, he darted out of the store with out buying the game. It feels good when you win a arguement.

Would it be asskissing to say that Jigglypuff has better taste in anime than >90% of this forum?
