all this week except for today we've been using computers in leadership (bootcamp equivalent D:). I had gone on to deviantart after I finished with my project.

i just tried to go there again and found out that in less than a day that the site had been blocked for nudity. :/

i think it was because one of the popular images was of a naked lady.

someone must have been snooping around in my history, or had tattled on me for going to non-research sites. :x

My school's filters are set into categories. "game" and "blog" in the URL are auto-blocked, as are many other sites (deviantart, photobucket, etc.) under things like "mature content", "arts and entertainment", "games" (yay for being screwed on my research of electronic stuff), etc.

The teacher notes people going to "bad" sites, and sends them to the server people to be blocked. Most sites were blocked from the setup that came with the firewall.

don't ask, i'm like a teacher's pet in computer science without really trying :(

of note: basically the only fun things we can do is go to random obscure sites or google (google video is blocked though).

Our school's network has it set up where every site that is visited by a student gets sent downtown to the main office, to some department or something. They have a little "committee" of sorts and review the site, then decide whether or not it should be blocked. Usually, though, the site isnt blocked, unless its something that obviously needs to be. I've visited the main Psypoke site several times before at school.

Also, anything that contains the words "forum", "video", "blog", or any inappropriate words in the URL gets an auto-block. Beyond that, any sites that aren't blocked can be manually blocked by the school

In my school, almost all the sites are blocked except for the websites in which we're supposed to get our information. I hate that gigantic blockage. I think they just blocked it to prevent people from looking at bad sites, but they didn't have to block so many websites.

All sites are blocked except educational sites. That includes Google and whatever other search engine you can think of. All blocked.

Ours apparently blocks every forum. It also blocks most of the major video sites (Youtube, Google Video, etc.) However, we still have Hotmail, Google Search (and Google Translate, which is great for getting into blocked sites) and quite a few other rather fun sites.

I'm not sure what the system is for blocking sites, but the software they use for it is the same across most London schools.

When I was in school nothing was blocked. I routinely checked out forums, Newgrounds, Something Awful, Youtube...everything! And I don't remember ever getting in trouble for it...

Youtube is the only website I know of that's definitely blocked on my school's computers (I'm assuming that most well-known video sites are blocked). I believe the Google videos/images options are also blocked.

It doesn't affect me anyway, as I know how to remove the blocks.

It'll be similar across all of England, won't it?

Yeah, Hotmail isn't blocked because people use it to send their work to but instant messaging like MSN is blocked and 'fun' sites/sites that aren't helpful for our work are blocked too.

I think at least half of the people who want to go on random sites at my college know "cheats" for the blocks so we can get on them anyway.

At my middle school, getting around the blocks was easy. There was an old system then, that made only the main page blocked, so all you had to do to get in was to go to google, type in the web page you wanted, then click on one of the sublinks, and bam, you're in. The only exception to this was google images, where the entire thing was blocked, so to get around that, we used to use .ca instead of .com, since the Canadian and American versions of google are EXACTLY the same things.

Guess canada is useful for something after all. Don't tell Auzzie though :3

The blocks used on my school's computers aren't very secure - they can be removed by accessing a certain webpage and fiddling with a few options.

Google Images is the only one I'm sure of. I'm guessing that MySpace is, too. I don't try to get on other sites, so...yeah.
