True, I don't ever cheat at school, I also never cheat on games.

In my opinion cheating is wrong in a lot of cases especially school, tests, and exams

I'm homeschooled so cheating isn't even an option :P. If I could I wouldn't, it would give you no pride if you got a good grade off it.

I only tried it once, and that time the question wasn't even on that exam. 1492; Cristopher Columbus found the America. Funny thing is I wrote it on the exam paper just for lolz and I had memorized by the time I had written it on my hand. I wrote it without looking.

I have a bad habit of copying people's answers (especially on a multiple-choice thing), but when it comes to tests I'm probably too busy guarding my own paper than to cheat off of others (not to mention i'm usually the first one done in most my classes...).

Christopher Clumbus did not discover America! Landed on the Caribean islands, where some Indians (that discovered America along with the rest of North America) gave him some gold.
Sometimes I can't resist looking at my friends paper, but I think cheating is wrong.

I think cheating is wrong but I still do it anyway. I guess I'm just scared of getting something wrong that I have to cheat - eg, I was happily minding my own paper when someone nudged me and whispered, "what'd you get for question 3c??" The supervising teacher was too busy doing something on his laptop (looking up porn i expect) so we compared, and some of our answers didn't match. So yeah, stupidly I changed my answer (my old answer was semi correct and the new answer was completely wrong), and I ended up getting busted when the teacher marked it. But still, even after that, given the opportunity to, err, "fine tune" my solutions, I would take it anyway.

I also think everyone is guilty of the following, but if you do it properly its not really cheating - sending around homework assignments on MSN and changing the font and the layout. I mean, if you use your friend's assignment as a resource, I don't really see how this is cheating but people who don't at least paraphrase are not that intelligent ;[ (unless you're from different schools or something, then go for it, good on you)

Sometimes you really can't help it though - especially when people check their answers during an exam when they hold their papers up against the sun. Don't why anyone would need to lift their paper up in an exam to check, but it makes for easy marks I wouldn't have gotten with my own knowledge.

Heh, rereading this post I realised I sounded like a big supporter of cheating, but really I'm not. You shouldn't really cheat, because in the end your mistakes make you a stronger person, and (insert another retarded cliche)

Lol, this has happened to me.
Well, I have to say, even though it makes me feel guilty and stupid, I do cheat. I cheat in tests when I haven't had time to revise it all and I panic because, as I'm applying to university, I can't afford to get less than a C, (and even that isn't really good enough). I know I can get B's and A's by myself, when I've revised enough, I'm just not willing to stay up until 3am all the time, (we have a lot of tests), but I'll revise my pants off if it's an actual examination which counts towards my final grade, therefore I won't cheat in those exams.

I've never been caught cheating. If I write on my hand, I get more nervous and my hands sweat a little, making the ink blur. Also, I sometimes forget and if I haven't used the correct pen, I accidentally wash it off when washing my hands. So either I spend time writing hard on my hand, or else I improvise. If I'm going to cheat, I often used to write on my wrist because I aways keep my jacket on in class, yet it's baggy enough for me to see down, so only I can see my notes there. And if I can't see, I'll pretend to scratch my wrist just enough so that I can see; read what I need and then let my sleeve fall back down.
In the last small test I cheated on, I found a new way. My college folder is covered with lyrics on cut out pieces of paper and a month ago when we were having a test, a guy 2 chairs away from me noticed this and said "What's that, notes?". At the time I laughed and jokingly replied "No but that's a good idea". After thinking about this and realizing that I wouldn't have enough time to revise everything the night before my exam, I made notes on pieces of paper the next morning and stuck them to the back of my folder, (as, luckily for me, there aren't many lyrics on the back). Then, at the start of the test, I simply turned my folder over when we got the paper and questions; put my leg up on my chair; put my folder on my knee and worked like that - shifting my writing paper to whatever position I needed it in order for me to see the notes that I couldn't remember.
I used to just put notes in my pocket and try to read them when I knew no one was looking, but I don't like the risk of that one.
Another (rare) way I have cheated is by writing on my stomach. Walking, I can keep my jeans up by putting my hand in my pocket or with a belt, or I can do my jacket up and as long as I hoist my jeans up every now and again, you can't see my stomach. However, my jeans are also baggy enough for me to see down if I want to. So a couple of times I've put notes below the top of my jeans to just above my underwear. Writing on my stomach is really difficult though because it isn't hard enough, lol, meaning I have to put a lot of time and effort into that one, so I'm not sure it's worth it when there are simpler ways.

I do quite a lot to ensure I'm not caught. In school I was sloppier, (back then I cheated because I couldn't be bothered revising at all or because I was very forgetful), but now I have a sort of reputation to live up to. I'm not a "teacher's pet" and I'm not the smartest in my classes, but I think I'm seen as the quiet, polite girl that my teachers like and rely on to remember where we're up to, etc.
Erm... I'm, (swap), nice but naughty? Not very bad though, I'm just not actually like how I seem.

I've never cheated in video games though. I don't know why, I just don't see the point unless I'm really stuck and no one else can help.

This.

I don't need to cheat on tests, since I'm mostly one of the top scorers, and I'm always done first. I don't find it wrong to look in the back of the book though, as long as you understand why it's the answer, it's fine. Just don't do it all the time, or it becomes a bad habit.

I can't remember a time I cheated on a test, just like Kasey, I'm the one usually GUARDING my test from cheaters. I was accused of cheating once in seventh grade (wrongly, I might add), and I got a 0 on that part of the test. What an idiot... Eventually he let me make up that part of the test, which was alright.

My reasons for not cheating aren't noble or right or anything -- I just don't trust the intelligence of other people. I just don't. I won't blindly scribble down an answer on someone else's sheet because I'd rather have my own guess. I don't like putting other people's thoughts on my paper. I want it to be MY work so I KNOW it's done the way I want it to be done.

This is another reason I am HORRIBLE in group project settings.

Eh, I've copied off someone once or twice, but that was ages ago. Now I just count on myself because it's most likely the people around me have the wrong answers. To tell you the truth, I'd rather have a wrong answer and learn from it rather than getting it right from someone else and not learning anything at all.

*copies off Kasey and Jamie*

I never cheat in assessments or exams. Cheating shows that you don't believe in yourself and, ultimately, those who cheat are only cheating themselves.

I find that sometimes, I have no effing clue what to put for an answer (see: French), so I have a sneaky peek at my neighbour's paper out of the corner of my eye.

Mind you, I don't do this for actual important tests, such as SATS or GCSE; just the weekly vocab tests and that kind of crap. I've got enough dignity to get my qualifications the legal way.

uh not really.

I cheat because I'd rather not have the hassle of a lunchtime detention because I get low marks in French tests. I cheat because who really cares about some random test that our teacher gives us every week?

As for the "you don't learn anything" issue - either way, we find out at the end of the test what the answers are. This is generally how I learn things; whether or not I knew that when I put the answer on the paper is unimportant. Most likely, I'll remember it myself *next* time we do the test/homework.

I wasn't talking about "random tests". I was directing my point towards the more important assessments and/or exams.

Back in high school I didn't cheat (much...) but in middle school, I was probably the biggest cheater in the school (dunno why I bothered, I had straight F's lol). I got caught almost everytime...the few times I can remember is when my friend did my math homework for a dollar, but we got caught. Another time was when I was too lazy to do my resume for job shadowing, so I used my friend's and changed all the information. I got caught then too.

Oh...and another time was when I wrote in my reading log "I read page 351 to page 510", but there were only 400 or so pages in the book. Of course, I got caught then too. I wasn't going to bother with the reading log, but there was an in-school dance the students could go to IF they read 500 pages. Since I got caught, I couldn't go, but I got to sit in the library and print off DBZ pictures with my boyfriend Randy, which I'm sure was much more fun. :P

Well, I never cheated, and I wouldn't if I somehow got back to school. I never really had any problems with tests, and even if I did cheat, who's to say the person I'm cheating off of is getting their answers right? Cheating is wrong, especially when you can't cheat well.

Just to add, (because a lot of people are talking about copying others), that I haven't cheated by copying someone else's work for 7 years but the people whose papers I would've cheated off were some of the most clever people I'll, (probably), ever meet. I honestly don't know how I got in to that school but the girls were actually scarily smart. If I copied from their work, it was correct. If you're in a normal class, you just have to choose carefully, lol. I was in the bottom set for everything, hurray. But now I've turned my work around, I'm in the top sets. Actually, it was more to do with my change in attitude. I don't know what happened but I realized that I needed to start working in order to get somewhere because house prices are going up, lol, and basically I was "as thick as two short planks" and I didn't want to be. So I found Psychology and everything changed - I've never enjoyed a subject so much or been this enthusiastic and this makes me try harder. So much so that I got an A in one of my exams that counted towards my final grade last year, (without cheating).
Therefore, I only cheat using notes in unimportant tests so that my teachers don't think I'm going to fail because I know I'm not, I just don't want to give up every minute of my "me time" so that I can revise for these tests.

This is precisely the point. What matters is your attitude towards work and learning; just memorising lists of facts for tests gets you nowhere without initiative and hard work.

Ergo: revise for important exams; for unimportant ones, just flick through your notes and get a rough idea of what it's about.

OMG Krisp... I have lots of friends, some of them are dumb, they copy my maths Hw, and I've never been caught :D . Anyway about 7 or 8 of my friends are really dumb, whereas the rest (which is a LOT by the way) really smart, I'm smart, but not so good at Maths :( , by the way i usually let them copy in Maths class, so very close, plus to make it less obvious that it is copyed they make a few mistakes, here and there

lol sif

Anyway I had to add that when I get back my paper and its not up to my standard (wherever that may be i'm not telling), I always say to myself "arrrrrrrrrrrrhg I should've looked onto Calvin's paper!!" Yeah it's a bad habit I should really get out of :( btw does anyone ever get the feeling of wanting to yell out "AAARRG YOU GOT QUESTION TWO WRONG FIX IT DAMMIT" during an exam? It's happened to me soo many times, I'm comparing answers with the in the whoever in the front left seat, and they get a question wrong. It really irritates my eyes, and after the exam I just have to track him down and explain to him what they did wrong. Yeah I know it sounds like I'm obnoxious like that but it's their fault really for making my eye twitch like that during examinations.

also I hate normal distributions and scaling :(
