Right-handed, left handed or ambidextrous?
Right-handed
Control by: Left brain
Left-handed
Control by: Right brain
Ambidextrous is the ability to use both hands equally well
Like most people, I am right-handed, but I am training myself to use both hands. What about you?

Is it even possible to "train" yourself to use both hands? Anyway, I am right handed, like most people. When I was 13, I fell off my bunk bed and broke my right arm. For a very long time, I had to use my left hand to do stuff. Physical stuff, like in gym class. I couldn't throw a ball correctly for a few years because it would hurt so much. Even now, it still hurts sometimes. :/

I'm Left-Handed. Actually I'm the only one in my class that is Left-Handed. I throw things using my Left-Hand. I kick things with my Left-Foot. I'm always a Lefty.

Yes. One of my left-handed classmates trained herself to use her right hand, and now she can use both. In fact, I am inspired by her.

i've tried to use my left hand at writin, but when i do, no-one can decipher it, not even me!
i think i might try to teach myself to use the left hand more often, coz i think it would be cool to be able to use both hands!
PS gud luck with ur training Sacred_Latios!!

I'm a leftie. But oddly, everything EXCEPT writing is done with my right hand, because of those stupid hell-to-use lefty scissors. And doodling...but I hate how my hand ALWAYS sumdges the paper and I hand in a messy worksheet and return to my desk with a black pinky-wrist line...
Everything comes out crooked when I try writing with my right hand...

You can't train yourself to be ambidextrous, you're born with it. While I use my right hand to write, I can do everything pefectlly well with both hands. I'm ambidextrous.

Well, you can kinda train yoursdelf to be ambidextrous. For example, children who are born left-handed but are forced to use their right hand - if they kept using both hands, each would be equally strong, and you could classify them as ambidextrous. However, that's different from being born with it.
Myself, I'm right-handed for drawing, writing and holding onto the banister when going down steep stairs. For some reason, my left hand takes over for everything else

Yeah, you can do that, but it's not the same and hard to do.

Training yourself to equal-ize your non-dominant hand is like being a one-legged man in a butt-kicking contest. In other words, it's very difficult, but yet still possible.
I am right-handed, but that doesn't mean I un-use my left hand, no-siree.
I usually use my left hand for risky and dangerous stuff that can lead to serious hand injuries and hand losses, such as knife play, fireworks, tiger petting, you name it.
Anyways, although you can train yourself to use both hands equally, you can never attain the mastership of both hands, which comes if you are born ambidexterous.
[geek]However, if you really want to be ambidexterous and you weren't born with it, take the Ambidexterous feat for your Dungeons & Dragons character.[/geek]

Yay, right-handed here. Though I type with both hands (or more specifically, two fingers. I never learnt to touch-type). Iuse my left-hand sometimes for other stuff. It must be from those hours of video game playing.
Question: Why do there appear to be more right-handed people than left-handed?

I'm right-handed, but somehow throughout the years my left arm has become stronger than my right arm.
As for my legs though, the situation's kinda weird. I'm left-footed when playing a traditional game called "Chapteh" (no clue how to spell it), and I can use both feet when playing soccer. My left foot is weaker, on the other hand, so I still rely on my right foot for powerful shots.

Well, you see, the left brain is meant for calculating and logical ideas. Maybe God wants people who are logical than creative. *shrugs*

I'm a rightie, and pretty much can't use my left hand for anything requiring precision. I worked at an Ice Cream shop this summer, so my right arm got even stronger than it already was.
Edit: Oh, and the whole Left Brain/Right Brain hypothesis is largely bunk. Mostly it's due to social pressures; for some reason, in historic cultures, lefties were frequently persecuted for being different, and so either became righties, or were killed. Although I wonder is there's not some genetic component to it too...

Proving that most forms of discrimination are completely ridiculous.
On-topic, it might be genetics. None of my family are lefties (at least the ones I can think of now).
Off-topic again: Yay, 900th post!

You can. My dad is 64. He is a lefty. When he was younger, being a lefty meant that there was something very wrong with you (dumb, i know) So they made him write with his right hand. And he became ampidextrous. Glad he did, cause I am to.

Correct, as stated by most of us here.
If you don't believe it, you can ask just about any doctor or nurse the question.
I feel we should direct the subject of this thread back to "Are you a lefty, righty, or ambidexterous?", as originally planned by the thread creator. Turning the thread into a debate about ambidexterity is bound to get it locked eventually...

Right handed, im trying to teach myself to be both, im getting better with the left, but it's still lacking.
My dad is perfect with both, he said he was born with it, im jealous.
The rest of the family is right handed.

My younger brother used to be Left-Handed, but when he was in KG his teacher taught him how to write with the Right-Hand. But right now, my brother completely forgot how to write with his Left-Hand, and now he is completely a Rightie/Righty. Rumors say that Left-Handed people write better than Right-Handed people.

Actually, since being a righty or lefty is dependent not on actual hand strength, but which side of your brain does most lf the work, it is possible to obtains mastery of both hands.
Of course anybody who actually has the time to do this most likely lives alone in the middle of nowhere with nothing else to do.

There is nothing genetic about using one or other hand, the reason why most people use right is just than most of the tools are made for rights (notebooks, cars, chairs, etc). Besides many people teach their children to write with right hand.
