Other Options: Mimic, Submission, Barrier/Thunderpunch (Tradebacks)

Verdict: Magmar is not quite as good as his buddy Electabuzz, since Fire was a really bad type in RBY, but he is still one of the top choices for a Fire Pokemon in RBY. Magmar also lacks the paralysis and Defense-boosting options that Electabuzz gets, but Confuse Ray isn't a horrible substitute. It also picks up Submission as a last-ditch effort against Rocks, but you're probably better off with Psychic. Finally, much like Electabuzz, Magmar also becomes much better through tradebacks by picking up a move, Thunderpunch, that helps him take on one of his main weaknesses.
