Verdict: Hitmonchan was always viewed as worthless trash until Diamond and Pearl and you can see why people think like this when you take look at Hitmonchan in RBY. In this generation, Hitmonchan has a terrible movepool and a horrible Special stat in a game dominated by Pokemon of the Psychic-typing. Even if you wanted to try using a Fighting Pokemon in RBY, Machamp, Poliwrath, and even Hitmonchan's brother, Hitmonlee, all make better choices.
