Other Options: Mega Drain, Seismic Toss, Confuse Ray, Ice/Fire Punch (Tradebacks)

Verdict: Even in the days of RBY, Gengar demonstrated how scary he was by seeing a ton of use despite his weakness to the game's most dominate type. Gengar is great choice for a leading Pokemon, as he is the fastest sleeper in pure RBY and backs up this feat with nasty Special moves, like Psychic and Thunderbolt, and a kamikaze Explosion. While HP and Defense are pretty bleh, Gengar is immune to the most common Physical type in RBY, Normal, and picks up Mega Drain to cripple Grounds (he should still watch out for Earthquakes, though). Seismic Toss will hurt Exeggutor, and Confuse Ray, while always nice, is almost a waste on something so streamlined toward beat downs like Gengar is. And, like many others, Gengar becomes even better by picking up the elemental Punches through tradebacks. Overall, Gengar is wicked and a great choice for a team.
