Guitar Hero, DDR, anime, IRC, IMs, coding for the site
Family
Just me, mom, dad, and the dog. No siblings.
Sleep Style
My day starts at 6:30am and usually ends around 10pm.
Language Skills
English, Latin, Java, PHP, and basic C++
Works of Literature
I enjoy the Harry Potter series (read 'em each once), the Imponderables series (question-answer format, very interesting), and I follow the story/antics of MegaTokyo as well. And, of course, the 5-part Hitchhiker's Trilogy is the best series ever. ;P
TV Shows
I'm a SciFi fan; Stargate SG-1 (especially before RDA left), Stargate Atlantis, Doctor Who, Heroes, Eureka, Lost; good stuff. I don't care for "reality TV" much.
Anime
I'm obsessed. The Kin of the Stars series was my first, and I love it. Besides that, I really liked Last Exile, Eureka Seven, Read or Die, Azumanga Daioh, FLCL, and of course The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.
Hidden Talents
I can play the piano fairly well, I'm teaching myself to play the guitar, and I can solve a Rubik's Cube in two to four minutes. I'm also an amateur magician, and know a few simple tricks, some of which can be quite profitable.
Yeah, I know, I don't do this often. What can I say, I've been busy?
Not just the site either. This stupid "real world" keeps getting in my way. Hard to believe I've got 5 weeks left of my Freshman year... guess I better start working on those final projects, huh?
It's been an interesting year so far. I've learned to live with jocks. I've survived a flood. I've had Campus Safety wake me up at 1:30 in the morning. I've made more friends than I would have expected an odd geek like me could ever find. I've made a fool of myself and not cared. I've discovered how amazing naps are. I've learned to value time to practice piano. I've learned just how fast dust piles up (I swear, even though I cleaned today, it'll be back by Monday). I've learned that for every awesome prof, there's three that suck; thank God I haven't found all the ones that suck yet. I went to the first concert in like 8 years. I lost half my hearing for a day or two. I've slept for nearly 20 hours, and not at all for over 40.
Most importantly, I think I've learned to make the most of this time. It's already been almost a year. Wow. I really don't want to have to deal with "the real world" outside of college. As much as profs or other people can annoy me, I like it here. It's almost 3am, and I'm just rocking out to my music and typing this up. Tomorrow, we're all just going to hang out, play games, and have fun. Sure, we'll casually work on homework, but it'll still be fun.
It's odd too, though. I've got friends back home that I only see on breaks. But I've got friends here I only see on campus. 5 months at home, 7 here. I find myself kind of torn. My solution has been to just have fun everywhere. I hope that will continue to be a valid solution.
I wish I could major in "having fun" actually. Not "partying" with the stupid cliches of not remembering what went on the night before. I've always felt there's no point to having fun if you're not even going to remember it. But things like we end up doing; laughing so loud and so late into the night that the RAs come by and tell us to shut up already or we'll all get fined. I like this life; I don't want to think about it ending. It has to some day, but why does it have to go by so fast? Some of my friends are Juniors this year. It seems like I just met them yesterday, and at this rate, I'll be saying 'goodbye and congrats on graduating' by tomorrow.
I know most of the people who will be reading this will be younger than me. In the spirit of 'listen to your elders,' I offer you a bit of advice. When it comes to growing up; don't. Avoid it at all costs. It sucks. Seriously, if you can stay a kid forever, do it. I wish I could, and I'm going to do everything I can to try. Why? Because it makes life more fun; it makes life worth living.
Growing up isn't all bad - you can gamble and drink, LEGALLY!! Any frat parties yet, or is it too soon? And you, Mr. err... "Geek", why don't you use a webcam to see your friends every day or two? :D There's a whole bunch of VOIP , and once you find a free communication program you like, you can have your friends download a copy, and then you could speak.
Time will go slower - just when you're drudging through your most boring classes and the worst professors. Oh, and when you are middle-aged, and your boss is a piece of garbage.
With the fact that finals are in under 5 weeks, you won't be updating as much, right?
Gambling is overrated. I'm up about $200 since I turned 18. Meh. And as for drinking, this is the Midwest. All you need is a parent around and you're free and clear. Frat parties - as I said, what's the point of having a good time if you're not even going to remember anything other than puking your guts out at 3 in the morning? Webcams and IM aren't the same as actually spending time with people.
