#Episode Summary - Johto Champions
160A Goldenrod Opportunity
Arriving in the large Goldenrod City, Ash discovers that the Gym Leader has taken a day off. To pass the time, the group decides to look around the city for some food and shopping. They come across a Clefairy, which belongs to Whitney, who tours the team around the city. After disposing of Team Rocket, who had stolen some food, Whitney reveals she's the Goldenrod Gym Leader. Ash challenges her, successfully beats two of her Pokémon, but loses to Miltank.
161A Dairy Tale Ending
The team and Whitney go to a Miltank farm run by Whitney's grandfather. Team Rocket attempt to capture the farm's Miltank, but are stopped by Ash with a combo of fire, creating ditches with water, and using Pikachu's electricity as a final blow. Ash challenges Whitney to a rematch to earn a Gym rematch (how silly is that?), using a similar strategy against Miltank; after some words from her grandfather, Whitney gives Ash a Plainbadge.
162Air Time!
Customary for trainers who have defeated Whitney in a Gym Battle, Ash appears on DJ Mary's talk show in the Radio Tower. With a shortage of actors to work on the radio's daily drama show, the twerps and Team Rocket, who are pretending to be a famous radio stars, fill in. A twisted medieval tale is created as Team Rocket keeps adding additions to the plotline to make the villians win. Team Rocket soon reveal themselves, and are defeated once again.
163The Bug Stops Here
Ash and Casey meet up once again, and compete against each other in National Park's local Bug Catching Contest. Casey gets an earful from Misty for driving her Chikorita too hard, and realizes she shouldn't be so hard on her Pokémon friends. Team Rocket, upset that they couldn't enter, then attack the twerps, but are defeated by Casey's Chikorita, which evolves into Bayleef. Ash wins the Contest by catching a Beedrill, but gives it to Casey.
164Type Casting
Continuing on to Ecruteak City, the kids come across a dead end as a bridge they need to cross is out. The twerps find a boater, who agrees to ferry the kids across if they can get him a Sudowoodo. The team then find two scientists debating Sudowoodo's type; after experimenting, they realize it's a Rock-type that can use Mimic for a variety of attacks. The boater agrees to ferry the gang as he needed Sudowoodo for his grand daughter, one of the scientists.
165Fossil Fools
The team wander into a fossil excavation and meet up with Professor Oak. After some theorizing about the origins of Pokémon from one of Oak's students, Ash and company get to meet some real-live Omanyte and Omastar. Team Rocket, who are stealing pure water for a bottled water scheme, have disturbed their homes and made it difficult to clean fossils. Team Rocket is dealt with, and the ancient Pokémon happily return to their underground cavern home.
166Carrying On!
The team come across a wild Fearow attacking a defenseless Pidgey, so they help the bird Pokémon out and return it to its owner, Malachy. Malachy's grandfather runs a carrier Pidgey service, but is going to retire soon. As Team Rocket sucks up the carrier Pidgeys for themselves, Ash and Noctowl intervene, allowing one of the Pidgey to deliver medicine to Way-Away Island. Malachy's grandfather then leaves the carrier Pidgey service in charge of Malachy.
167Hassle in the Castle
Stranded in the rain, the team barge into a conveniently nearby castle. The owner, Ana, is a specialist who uses a Pokémon's abilities to help humans. Brock, Ana, and Team Rocket are stranded in the castle's underground maze, and Brock and Ana's Zubats must work together to find a way out. Brock's Zubat evolves to finish off Team Rocket, but Brock is once again dejected by a girl as Golbat's supersonic waves are too strong to treat humans.
